I'm a local girl, born and raised in O-town. We're a tight knit, Hispanic family. My Mother is Spanish, my Father is Puerto Rican. Yes, I speak Spanish. ;) I went to Lake Mary High School, UCF and I graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Broadcast Journalism (Go Gators!). For 7 years I was a TV news reporter and anchor. It was an amazing experience. But after years of standing out in hurricanes, working crazy hours and being surrounded by depressing news each day, I realized journalism was not something I wanted to do forever. So, I quit. (It took about 6 months for me to make the decision but eventually I made it.) I completely took a leap of faith and jumped with absolutely nothing to catch me but the support of my husband and my insane confidence that whatever was meant to be, would be. When the press release was published about me leaving the TV industry, I got a call from Johnny Magic asking me if I wanted to 'hang out' on the morning show as a 'guest' since 'I had nothing better to do' (his exact words). My last day on television was a Friday in June 2011. I was on XL the following Monday and I haven't left since. I love my job. I love the people I work with and I love the story I now get to tell to encourage people to take risks, follow your instincts and trust everything will work out. 5 THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT LAURA: 1) I was the captain of the Girls' Weightlifting Team in High School 2) I have a freakishly strong sense of smell and sight 3) I was a tom boy when I was young. Climbed trees, played with frogs 4) I ran off the stage at my childhood ballet recital 5) I anchored my middle school morning news broadcast with Mandy Moore
